The maths, explained

How loan repayments are calculated

Loan Assure loans are repaid on an amortising basis — you pay a fixed amount each month that covers both the interest charged for that period and a portion of the original loan (the principal). In the early months, more of your payment goes toward interest; over time, more goes toward paying down the balance until the loan reaches zero at the end of the term.

Your monthly repayment is worked out with the standard amortisation formula:

Monthly = P × r ÷ (1 − (1 + r)−n)
where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12), and n is the number of monthly payments.

For example, a C$50,000 loan at 7% per annum over 24 months works out to roughly C$2,239 per month, with about C$3,729 in total interest — a total cost of credit of about C$53,729. FAQ

Loan calculator questions, answered

How does the Loan Assure loan repayment calculator work?

Enter your loan amount and a repayment term — the interest rate is fixed at 7% per annum — and the calculator instantly estimates your monthly repayment, the number of payments, the total interest and the full amount repayable. It uses the standard amortisation formula and updates in real time as you adjust any figure.

How are monthly loan repayments calculated?

Repayments are calculated on an amortising basis using your loan amount (principal), your monthly interest rate and the number of payments. Each instalment covers the interest for that month plus a portion of the principal, so the balance reduces to zero by the end of the term.

Can I use it for personal, business and debt consolidation loans?

Yes. The calculator works for any Loan Assure product — personal, business, debt consolidation and short-term loans. Just enter the amount and term that fit your goal — the rate is fixed at 7% per annum.

Which currencies does the calculator support?

It supports the Canadian Dollar (C$), US Dollar ($) and South African Rand (R). Choose your currency from the dropdown and every figure reformats instantly.

Does using the calculator affect my credit score?

No. The calculator is a free, private estimation tool — it requires no sign-up or personal details, so it has no effect on your credit score.

Is the estimate a guaranteed loan offer?

No. Results are indicative only and do not constitute a quote or an offer of credit. Your final rate, fees and repayment are confirmed after a responsible affordability assessment and verification. Loan Assure lends responsibly and never promises guaranteed approval.

Is the 7% interest rate fixed?

Yes. This calculator uses a fixed rate of 7% per annum, in line with Loan Assure personal loans from 7% p.a. Your final confirmed rate depends on your product, term and profile and is set after a responsible affordability assessment.
